Introduction
Up to and including the middle part of 2023, DB Cargo used Class 90s on freight trains, light engine movements, passenger
trains and railtours/charters. However, due to losing traffic to competitors, the remaining active Class 90s were all stored, in
effect joining the long-term stored fleet at Crewe IEMD. The last confirmed working for a DB Cargo Class 90 took place on
Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th July 2023, which involved 90039.
Weekday Operations

Fleet Profile and Status
The original DB fleet comprised of 24 Class 90s, but this total has been reduced to 12 following the sale of 10 engines for scrap
and the transfer of 90018/90040 to Freightliner in April 2024. See below:

90017, 90022, 90023, 90025, 90027, 90030, 90031, 90032, 90033, 90038 (sold for scrap)
•
90018 and 90040 are now part of the Freightliner fleet (see other sections of the website for more details)
•
90019, 90020, 90021, 90024, 90026, 90028, 90029, 90034, 90035, 90036, 90037, 90039 (short-term storage)

Other Information
The DB Class 90s were put up for sale in December 2023 and expressions of interest were due to finish in January 2024. At the
time of writing, I can confirm that 90018 and 90040 transferred to Freightliner, but 90017, 90022, 90023, 90025, 90027, 90030,
90031, 90032, 90033 and 90038 have been sold for scrap. This leaves 12 Class 90s which are currently in store at Crewe IEMD
and have been since the middle part of 2023 when DB switched them off.
